Partner with IT Support Staff
There's a small army of IT support professionals at work around Oxford. As well as the central IT provision here at IT Services, the individual University colleges and departments have their own local IT provision. That adds up to a lot of IT expertise.
Part of our mission is to build and support a real IT community here – to enable all IT Support Staff (ITSS) to work as one large group, supporting one large University.
To do this we have a dedicated team, IT Support Staff Services (ITS3), for local ITSS. ITS3 provides a central point of coordination for local IT staff to help them in their specialist requirements and to build their partnership with us. We offer an excellent range of resources, from induction notes to software documentation. We can advise and help colleges and departments in recruiting IT staff, through the whole process from job descriptions to induction, and we'll visit ITSS in their own units if needed.
We work closely with the University's ICT Forum, particularly in administration, support and event management. The ICT Forum includes all local ITSS and provides a framework to get all ICT staff fully involved in both the strategic development and the day-to-day running of ICT in the collegiate University. The ICT Forum’s Steering Committee is made up of nine elected ITSS, plus the Head of IT Support Staff Services.
Our popular specialist training courses, events and seminars pull in many local ITSS and cover a wide range of topics. We administer forums and wikis to gather and share information. Crucially, we also offer fast-track IT support, to make sure that IT staff get expert help when they need it, so they can deliver excellent service to their customers.
When you use IT at Oxford, you're using a service that's the result of a real partnership – central and local IT staff working together to deliver the world-class IT required by a world-class institution.
