Following the delivery of the technical options report, outlining the various possible solutions for enabling the collegiate University to adopt common wi-fi, and discussion of this at the Project Board meeting in December 2015, the second phase of the GOWN (Global Oxford Wireless Network) project has been put on hold until August 2016. This decision has been taken to allow IT Services to concentrate on the delivery of the TONE (The Oxford Network Evolution) project and on new data centre services.
In the meantime, the department will be working on interim measures to enhance existing wireless services, specifically:
- improving the resilience and capacity of eduroam;
- and mitigating the risks around the OWL Visitor service.
