Do you have a great idea for a digital project which would benefit staff or students at Oxford?

The IT Innovation Seed Fund has just been launched and aims to fund innovative projects which will enhance the staff or student experience at Oxford through digital means. Successful projects may go on to become full services or work with Isis Innovation on spin out opportunities.

Each term (or once a year for students) a ‘challenge’ will be set to encourage people to focus their thoughts and submit ideas for others to discuss. For example ‘We would welcome ideas on how to improve, through digital means, our outreach activities’. There will also be an ‘open’ challenge where you can submit any idea you feel could bring benefit to the University. If you and your colleagues have a great idea then send it in!

There are two categories:

  • Staff IT Innovation Seed Fund – available each term to any member of University staff (the fund is not open to college-only employees). Projects should run for no longer than 12 months and can range in cost from a few hundred pounds to a maximum of £100k in total.
  • Student IT Innovation Seed Fund - available to any student within the University. A call will be issued once per year in Hilary Term, and projects will run for 8 weeks in the long vacation. Projects can involve a team of students and can range in cost from a few hundred pounds to a maximum of £20k in total. This annual challenge is being run in collaboration with Oxford University Student Union.

The challenge(s) will take the form of key strategic objectives of the University and ask you to suggest ideas for small digital projects that could address these. The challenges are set by the IT Innovation Group in collaboration with senior University committees (e.g. Education Committee). The annual student challenge is being run in collaboration with OUSU.

The current call is now open and will close at midnight on 14th February 2015. For more details visit the IT Innovation Fund page on this website.
