University members can buy software at discounted rates from the IT Services Online Shop. There is a full software catalogue available. For help with any aspect of buying via the online shop see the Shop Help pages.
For purchases of Microsoft and Adobe software for use on personally owned machines for staff or students you can use our software distribution portal.
You can also use the online shop to pay for services such as file recovery and hardware repairs.
Who can use the service
Because much of the software supplied by the shop is acquired through special purchase arrangements, we can only supply goods to members of the University with the appropriate status for the product. This means you must have a University card in one of the following categories:
- Member of Congregation
- University staff
- college staff
- departmental staff
- academic visitor
- registered part-time student
- visiting/recognised student
In general, retired staff can purchase services from IT Services, but not software.
Some software agreements have additional restrictions, and details are given in the relevant category and products descriptions within the online shop. Because of licence agreement restrictions, the online shop is only accessible from the Oxford University network. If you are not directly connected to the University network you will need to use Virtual Private Network (VPN) to connect before you visit the shop.
Buying or downloading software
The online shop distributes software covered by licences negotiated on behalf of the whole University, often at a reduced price. Most software media is held in stock, but some of the less popular packages are copied or ordered on request.
Instead of buying software on disk from the online shop, you may also be able to download it. In some cases the downloads are free and in others there is a charge (sometimes this is different from the price for the same product on disk from the online service). Some products are only available as a download.
How to pay
To pay for services through the online shop, you need to set up an account. You can do this on the online shop website. You can register as an individual or as a department, college or associated institution. For purchase order payments for non-personal purchases you need to contact the IT Services shop to have this facility set up for you by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Delivery and collection
We can deliver your order to addresses within the UK, or you can choose to collect it yourself. You can collect orders between 8.30am and 5.30pm from the IT Services reception desk at 13 Banbury Road, once you have received our email dispatch note. You will need to bring your University card with you for identification.
The online shop is usually available at all times. We normally process orders between 9am and 5pm on normal working days (except bank holidays and the days between Christmas and New Year). We are open between 8.30am and 5:30pm for you to collect your orders.
