The disk encryption service provides security for laptops and other devices. It encrypts all information stored on the device such that it cannot be accessed by a third party, thereby protecting against unauthorised access if the device is lost or stolen. It also enables the University to prove that the device was encrypted (after it has been lost), and to restore access should a user forget their passphrase.
