We provide the tools to help staff and students collaborate with colleagues both within and outside the University.  Collaboration takes many forms – document sharing, messaging and conference calls for example – and we offer various solutions for different collaborative working scenarios.

Storing & sharing files

Store and work together on documents with my internal team

You can share and work together on files with your University internal team using Nexus365 Teams. You can all work on a document at the same time:

  • No more checking documents in and out.
  • No more merging multiple versions.
Store my team’s files for ad hoc sharing on a temporary basis If you need to share files with team members outside of the University use your Nexus365 OneDrive for Business, but remember this should only be a temporary location whilst you are working on the documents. Final versions should be moved to their final home, e.g. your departmental shared drive.
Store and share materials with students The virtual learning environment for storage and sharing of course materials with students is moving from the current Weblearn platform, to the new Canvas tool. Canvas will include a collaboration area for students working on assignments together which makes use of the Nexus365 OneDrive functionality.
Store digital recordings of lectures Replay Lecture capture is a simple to use tool to record and securely store lecture recordings.
Share large files with colleagues Send large files using the Oxfile service. Available for any member of the University to exchange large files both inside and outside the University.

Quickly ask colleagues a question

There are several different instant messaging options available to you depending on the tools you prefer to use:

Nexus365 Chat is part of Nexus365 Teams but can be used for messaging with anyone within the University. Do not forget these messages are saved so be aware of GDPR guidelines.

Nexus365 Skype for Business - for messaging with other Skype users internal to the organisation or external.

Chorus - instant messaging with other Chorus users wherever they are located.

For more focused messaging on specific topics within Nexus365 Teams, there is Conversation functionality within channels, which allows you to keep conversations together for easy access.

Audio & video for meetings

Hold an audio/video meeting

Depending on what you want to be able to do in the meeting, and the type of delegates (internal to the University or external), within Nexus365 you can either use:

Nexus365 Teams video to meet (providing you have webcams) and share screens via ShareTray whilst you hold your meeting.

Skype for Business meetings can include external delegates who you invite by sending a Skype Meeting invite via Outlook. Via Skype you can also:

  • Share screens, and give other delegates control of the mouse to help the discussion
  • Use a Whiteboard to share and explain ideas

Users of the new VLE system, Canvas also have access to Big Blue Button functionality to hold video meetings.
