We offer a full list of free and low cost software to members of the University and information on how to obtain it. Other free sotware used by many includes Open Office – a Microsoft Office replacement, Firefox – a fully featured and secure web browser and Thunderbird – a fully featured and secure email client.
WebLearn is Oxford University's virtual learning environment (VLE), where you can access course-related materials on your desktop and mobile. Find out how it can be used to facilitate collaboration, communication, group work and assessment activities in support of teaching and learning.
Canvas will be the new virtual learning environment for Oxford. You will be told if you need to use Canvas instead of WebLearn.
Securely send files up to 25GB to anyone with the free OxFile service. Use SharePoint to collaborate, hold club pages or organise your thesis resources. Use OneDrive for Business or Teams with Nexus365. Develop your own website with 100MB of personal web space.
Access free wifi via eduroam in Oxford and other universities around the world. For secure access, use our Virtual Private Network (VPN) service to reach restricted resources when you are not in the office. Have a look at our overview on connecting to the internet.
We make free podcasts of lectures, talks and more on a wide range of topics available to anyone. Our free lecture capture service means lecturers can record their sessions for revision and greater access.
Find places around town, search the libraries and get live transport information with the Mobile Oxford app (also available on desktops). Workplace Finder provides a simple but comprehensive directory of the University's workspaces. You can browse photographs of potential workplaces, consult opening hours and input search criteria in order to find somewhere which fits your particular needs and preferences.
We offer free help and advice online, by phone, face-to-face, centrally and local to your college or department. Check out all your support options. You can get free hardware repair or replacement if you subscribe to our computer hardware breakdown service (includes, ipads, laptops, printers, etc.)
The Hierarchical File Server (HFS) service provides large-scale central backup and archive services to postgraduates and University staff.
