Training and facilities
We provide a broad range of IT courses, both classroom-based and online, for all staff, academics and students at the University.
Our IT Learning Centre (ITLC) provides over 200 classroom-based and over 1000 online courses to help you in your studies, research, administration and future career. We also train staff on specialist University systems and software.
The ITLC courses cover everything from the basics of Microsoft Office to advanced programming and academic use of software. You can sign up for a teacher-led course or come along to our short, focused lunchtime sessions. To learn at your own pace, we offer lynda.com which is a huge resource of online, video-based courses that University members can access at any time for free. We also offer self-service learning resources through the ITLC Portfolio of online course material.
If you’re planning a group session, or looking for bespoke training, consider our closed courses. These are usually the same as our standard courses but arranged especially for your group. We can customise them for your needs, if necessary. Most of our courses take place in the Thames Suite, our dedicated IT learning rooms in the centre of Oxford. These rooms, with state-of-the-art computing and audiovisual equipment, are available for hire.
We train University staff to use the administrative and business IT software and systems we support. These are major systems, used by teaching staff, human resources, finance staff – they underpin almost every aspect of University life. Effective IT training is vital to make sure these systems keep running smoothly.
And if you’re a member of our IT Support Staff (ITSS) register, you’ve probably come across our popular ITSS training programme. These courses, seminars, events and workshops are designed especially for ITSS and delivered by our IT Support Staff Services (ITS3) team.
