IT courses for your team

Did you know that our IT Learning Centre (ITLC) can deliver courses just for your team or group, at a time and place to suit you*. We call these 'closed courses' as only people you choose to invite can join.

During the 2020/21 academic year, our IT instructors delivered 41 closed courses for 23 different groups. Courses covered a wide variety of topics including: presentations, media interviews, research posters, R, video editing, Teams, NVivo, and plagiarism awareness. We even had attendees from the World Health Organisation at one course.

How do closed courses work?

Pre-designed digital skills courses for 6-20 participants can be arranged as 'closed courses' for your group. Only your invited group of staff or students will attend, and the course will be organised at a time to suit you.

All you have to do is identify an area of IT learning that would benefit your group from our list of available courses. Then talk to the ITLC team to agree the time, place, cost and other logistics. All the information you need is on our closed courses webpage.

Presentations and poster design skills: Department of Materials

For a number of years, the ITLC has worked closely with the Department of Materials to deliver presentation and research poster design skills courses for graduates. These courses are usually delivered each Hilary term, face-to-face in our Thames Suite at Banbury Road.

Pandemic or not, it remained important to continue delivering these courses. So, in Hilary term 2021, the same, high quality courses (Improving your research posters and Online presentations) were delivered in an online format for 12 smaller groups. The courses were well-received with glowing feedback. One delegate remarked "This was incredibly informative and engaging - one of the best learning experiences I have had here."

Tailored courses

Our pre-designed courses may not always be exactly what you want, so we can tailor the content to fit your specific needs. For tailored courses, we usually make an additional one-off charge for the customisation, in addition to the charge for delivering the course.

Bespoke courses

If there is a topic that we do not cover, we may still be able to help by developing a bespoke course for you. There is a one-off charge for this.

Presentation skills: Nuffield Department of Population Health (NDPH)

NDPH wanted a training session to support staff and students with preparing and delivering individual, five minute pre-recorded presentations to be included in their 2021 Symposium. They spoke to our ITLC digital skills team who developed a bespoke session covering:

  • Planning your presentation

  • Presentation and slide design

  • Preparing visual aids
  • Presentation set-up and delivery

The course, attended by 49 delegates, was delivered before the Symposium on two dates that worked for the department, allowing delegates time to prepare and record their presentations. Course delegates learned new skills and gained confidence.
