Organisation structure

IT Services is made up of five main groups. Each group consists of teams that are responsible for the delivery and maintenance of services to support education, research and administration.  A short outline of each group is set out below.

The University of Oxford's Interim Chief Information Officer (CIO) is Dr Stuart Lee who leads IT Services and all its activities and services.

The Office of the CIO looks after the day-to-day running of IT Services including departmental administration and business and service management. The main areas covered include:

  • Departmental administration (HR Finance, Estates)
  • Business management
  • Enterprise Solution Architecture
  • Innovation

The Office of the CIO is also led by Dr Stuart Lee.

The Customer Services Group provides the main central IT support services for the University, including the Service Desk, digital skills training and access to site-licensed or discounted software. Teams include:

  • Service Desk 
  • Desktop Services
  • IT Support Staff Services (ITS3)
  • IT Learning Centre (ITLC)
  • Educational Media Services

Customer Services is led by John Ireland.

The Programme and Project Delivery Group (PPDG) manages the major programmes and projects that deliver large-scale IT-enabled change for the University.

Areas covered include business systems (such as those used by HR or Finance) and IT infrastructure (such as hardware and software), as well as innovations in using IT for research, teaching and learning. Teams are grouped as:  

  • Project delivery (programme and project management)
  • Project services (business analysis, business change, project communications, testing)

The Programme and Project Delivery Group is currently led by Jenny Lister.

Infrastructure Services is responsible for the data and networks that are the foundation of the University's IT infrastructure, server and storage management, and applications such as Nexus365.

The largest group in the department with a broad remit, teams are grouped as:

  • Networks and data centres services
  • Platform services
  • Research computing and support

Infrastructure Services is led by Dr Michael Fraser.

The Software Solutions Group provides services to identify, analyse, scope, procure, design, build/configure, test and deploy applications and software, such as the Oxford Mosaic web platform. 

The group also looks after data, reporting architecture and modelling, helping to ensure that data is always available, accessible and reliable. Teams within Software Solutions are grouped as follows:

  • Application platforms (Canvas development, CMS and web platform, Dars Development)
  • Enterprise and integration platforms (Azure and Dynamics)
  • Data reporting, architecture and modelling
