Support teaching and learning

Lecturer in lecture theatre

Our team of digital video and audio specialists (Educational Media Services) produces high quality recordings to support teaching internally and to promote University or college activities beyond Oxford.

Working from IT Services’ professional film studio or out on location across the University, we produce professional quality audio or video that can help take Oxford’s teaching to a global audience.

Lecture capture

Our lecture capture service (Replay) offers software tools for automatically recording lecture presentations, which students can then view within the University's virtual learning environment. It is a valued aid for all students but particularly for students with disabilities.

Media publishing

We are responsible for Oxford’s podcasting and media publishing, regularly adding to the vast wealth of audio and video material already available free of charge to the general public on the University’s Podcasts website and Apple Podcasts (formerly iTunesU). This includes research outputs, lectures aimed at our students and the wider public, interviews with world-leading thinkers, and news related material, giving researchers and departments a great opportunity to engage with a wider audience.

Media production

We can produce broadcast quality video, for example filming important events such as guest lectures or research conferences. Material can be transferred into web formats for publication on our podcasting channels or embedding in a departmental website.

Live streaming

Our live streaming (webcasting) service allows you to reach a global public audience on the internet. It is particularly popular for events with high-profile speakers where the local Oxford audience is too big for the capacity of the room or where the lecture is of interest to a wide audience. We also broadcast interactive learning sessions into schools, supporting outreach to prospective students.
