Orchard news

The Orchard Managed Desktop service provides a suite of management services for University-owned Apple devices running macOS and iOS. If you haven’t come across Orchard before, take a look at our last article to find out more about this service.

What’s new with Orchard?

As you can imagine, we are always delighted when we are able to help colleagues around the University to get the most from their tools and other resources. With this in mind, it is our pleasure to welcome the Saïd Business School and the Oxford Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain on board as new customers this month, to provide help with looking after their Mac and iOS fleets.

It’s also satisfying to hear that your service is helping, even in a small way, to deliver solutions which will help people around the world. One such example is the iPads that we help manage at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS). The iPads are now being used in the VROOM study into pausing immunosuppressive drugs while the COVID-19 vaccine takes effect. We contacted Matt Brock, Head of Botnar IT at NDORMS, who said:

“To assist with COVID clinical trials around the country’s hospitals, we needed to deploy numerous iPads securely and quickly, at scale. We came to central IT Services for their help and as a result these iPads were up and running using Orchard’s MDM platform. Getting on board took no time at all. The service is very intuitive; it allowed us to get every device enrolled and configured seamlessly.

Orchard gives NDORMS the solid peace of mind that our devices are managed correctly and, fundamentally, that it enables them to be used to their full potential without issue. This was such a success, we now run multiple research trials on this platform, along with our extensive desktop and laptop Mac estate.”
