It’s been a while since our last update, but we wanted to let you know that Teams is changing!
New Teams coming to your desktop soon
With a faster and more flexible user experience, new Teams is designed to help you save time and work together more efficiently and securely. When it’s available you’ll be able to try out new Teams by using the ‘Try the new Teams’ toggle on the top left of your Windows Teams app. At the moment this ‘preview mode’ is only available for Windows users while the app is still being developed, but don’t worry, Mac users haven’t been forgotten - the new Teams will be available for you too.
Following the preview phase, new Teams will automatically be rolled out for all of us later this year, and Microsoft will then start to retire the ‘Classic’ Teams app that we currently use. Find out more about ‘new Teams’ in this Microsoft blog which outlines some of the benefits of the new app.
More Teams developments to look out for
We will publish our usual termly update with important reminders about such things as not changing library settings on Teams SharePoint sites and useful new features, but until then here are a few things Microsoft is working on that might be of interest:
- With Collaborative Stageview, app content opens in a new Teams window so you can engage with content and chat with other team members, side-by-side, sharing links and collaborating on content within Teams.
- Together mode for Teams rooms will allow meeting organisers and presenters to choose an appropriate layout for all the participants.
- A new search experience for chats and channels will allow users to search in a specific chat or channel and reach relevant results faster.
- A new channels experience will be built with an intuitive design to help teams focus and actively engage.
You can check the Teams roadmap if you want to find out more about what’s coming next.

As always, the best way to find up-to-date information about Teams at Oxford is to join the Nexus365 User Group (NUG) on Teams, the code is LNJVOFR. Check the New and upcoming channelfor the latest updates.
Lots more information about using Teams can be found on our IT Help website.
Top tip
Until Microsoft changes the Teams app permanently and removes the toggle, you can return to Teams classic by switching the toggle back again.
