The University's telephony service is changing by July 2026

The University is moving from Chorus to Teams Phone for its telephony service by July 2026.

What does that mean for me?

  • If you are already using Teams Phone, there is nothing you need to do
  • For personal phone lines (assigned to an individual), Teams Phone can be used without a handset (desk phone) via your computer, a headset or a mobile device.  Provision of handsets for personal users will be at the discretion of each college or department
  • If you are retaining your personal phone extension without a handset, and it is not already on Teams Phone, it could be reassigned at any time from January 2026. This is likely to be sooner in a department than a college.  Your local lead should notify you of your specific date in advance
  • Common area lines (for shared areas such as laboratories, receptions, lodges, kitchens) will usually use a handset with Teams Phone
  • Transferring lines requiring handsets to Teams Phone also needs network preparatory work, so they are likely to be reassigned later than those that do not

What do I need to do?

If you are not already using Teams Phone, look out for further communications from your college or department in the coming weeks and months.

If you do not make or receive external calls, you may not need to retain a phone extension. Reducing phone lines will save your department or college time and money so please discuss with your Telephone Coordinator if you think you don't need one.
