Educational Media Manager

Under direction of the Director of Customer Services, with management responsibility for the goals, resources, performance and development of a team including permanent and project staff, you will be the recognised face of the successful podcasting service and other multimedia uses in education.

The University podcasting initiative to provide freely available academic talks, lectures and interviews to the world through Apple's iTunes U software, alongside a parallel web portal, http://podcasts.ox.ac.uk, has high impact and is linked to learning, teaching, dissemination, public affairs and widening access strategies. The University is recognised globally as a centre of expertise in open podcasting and the development of collections of open educational resources (OER) available for re-purpose and re-use both within the UK and worldwide higher education.

You will ensure a high level of customer care and work closely with senior academics to deliver their content to an internal and global audience. You will build new partnerships, develop your functional / specialist area (multimedia services), supervise research staff and deliver on strategic projects for IT Services. You will ensure that Oxford University’s learning technology services are based on research into users’ needs and the latest pedagogical research where relevant.

Essential selection criteria

  • Education to master’s degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject
  • Demonstrable evidence of strategic planning and development of multimedia services
  • Extensive knowledge of current initiatives and directions in new media in higher education
  • Demonstrable experience and expertise in project management
  • Established experience in working with the legal and technical issues associated with release of Open Educational Resources (OER)
  • Experience of financial management sufficient to manage both projects and services
  • Ability to assess a variety of views and have the confidence to make decisions based upon them
  • Excellent management skills and experience in managing several members of staff
  • Track record in successful funding applications to support research and development
  • Experience of national initiatives, projects and networks
  • Experience in financial management
  • Proven track record in developing new initiatives, and strategic development of a service or team
  • Knowledge of higher education processes
  • Commitment to accessibility and open standards
