Head of IT Learning Centre

The Head of the IT Learning Centre will provide leadership and management to the teams of IT teachers, trainers and learning events support for learning activities in Customer Services in support of the strategic direction of IT Services. The post holder will be responsible for their own area of work and the co-ordination of the teams within the IT Learning Centre and project-related training, (currently 13 people on grades 2, 5, 7, 8 and 9). The activities of these areas require that the Head of ITLC be experienced in delivering teaching and training, managing teaching and training programmes and budgets, and managing contract staff. The Head of ITLC has responsibility for line management, budget management, recruitment, retention and professional development within the team.

Essential selection criteria

  • Experience of managing a team of teachers or trainers in a learning organisation
  • Experience of leading and managing teaching and training activities in one or more of the areas currently covered by the IT Learning Centre
  • Ability to liaise with senior members of the University and with representatives of the IT technical community, and to provide technical leadership in these interactions
  • Ability to work independently to set and achieve goals
  • A proven track record of success in delivering and evaluating teaching and training, and the ability to provide leadership based on personal credibility
  • A working knowledge of procedures and practice relating to support and management of contract staff, paid as claimed staff and/or interns in higher education
  • Experience in reporting management information in formats appropriate to strategic planning and thinking
  • Knowledge of procedures and practice relating to project management
  • A positive, open-minded, creative and proactive approach
  • A recognised teaching or training qualification
  • Demonstrable professional development in the field of IT-related teaching and learning

Desirable selection criteria

  • A proven track record in delivering projects successfully
  • Up-to-date knowledge of recruitment and selection procedures
