Senior Administrator

This role concentrates on four important activities within IT Services:
senior administration duties
personnel management
staff development within the department
the relationship with the University Estates Services and overall estates management

This role is also a member of the IT Services Senior Management Team (SMT) with responsibility for the strategic direction and development of the department within the defined remit areas listed below.

Senior administration covers a wide range of activities to ensure the smooth running of the department, including line management of the HR and Office Managers, financial management of associated budgets and leading on department-wide projects.

Personnel encompasses all issues related to HR, including recruitment, planning, personnel issues, staff liaison and policies, in conjunction with and ensuring excellent working relations and communication with the Personnel Services department.

The role includes planning staff learning and development across the department, and co-ordination of the leadership skills programme.

Finally the post holder is responsible for planning the use of our dispersed estate making the most use of available resources. They will liaise with the University Facilities Management to ensure the smooth running of all premises, to include safety and security.

Essential selection criteria

  • Knowledge, intellectual capacity, reasoning and analytical skills of a graduate or equivalent
  • Extensive managerial experience in a varied working environment
  • Significant experience of personnel management involving a large and diverse workforce
  • Experience with identifying, designing and delivering learning and development interventions across a department
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to lead and to encourage a team-based approach
  • A quick analytical mind with the ability to think laterally and creatively to resolve problems
  • Strong organisational skills together with the ability to prioritise and delegate effectively
  • The ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with a wide range of people within and external to the post holder’s own organisation
  • Well versed in the use of IT with the ability to exchange information and data between a variety of office, financial and other resource management software
