Portfolio Management Office (PMO) Manager

The PMO Manager will manage the Portfolio team in their role to support programme and project managers in achieving successful programme and project delivery. This will be achieved through:

  • ensuring that the IT Services project methodology is promoted, developed, and adhered to, ensuring that all project staff are trained as required
  • managing both the supply and demand aspects of resource planning for projects
  • managing and mitigating cross-portfolio risks, dependencies and resourcing conflicts

The post holder will need to develop and maintain strong working relationships with programme teams, technical and support teams, and senior management in order to achieve these objectives.

Essential selection criteria

  • A high level of general education to degree level or equivalent (which may be in experience)
  • Have had demonstrable experience of programme/project management and PMO/portfolio management experience
  • Be able to construct and use a variety of programme/project reporting tools, for communicating programme status at director and sponsor level
  • Have had experience of working with an enterprise-wide systems delivery methodology in a programme/ project/ PMO role, and be able to mentor project teams and train new staff
  • Have had experience of working with a head of area or director level across business and IS areas
  • Have the ability to lead workshops to review planning, RAID and SWOT discussions with senior management and programme leads
  • Have had experience of managing resource allocation across group functions and programme teams
  • Certification (at practitioner level) in a recognised programme and/or project management methodology such as MSP, PRINCE2 or Agile PM
  • Strong administrative skills including planning, project financial forecasting and reporting
  • Ability to estimate the impact of a programme of change at a high level to include resource inputs, timescales and budgets
  • Strong influencing and communicating skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to influence with authority
