Projects, Testing and Reporting Manager

This role is in the Desktop Services team which is part of the Customer Services group in IT Services. The post holder will manage small to medium projects across the team. This will require working in close partnership with other teams in IT Services and in the wider IT community within the University. The role includes responsibility for audit and reporting functions including data analysis and consolidation in support of both business as usual and project activities. There will be two Grade 6 staff reporting into this position. The job holder needs to be very focused, flexible, motivated and skilled, with a professional approach

In addition the post holder will be responsible for reviewing current policies, processes and guidelines developed by the Desktop Services team.

Essential selection criteria

  • Experience of project managing small to medium IT projects, for example planning, co-ordinating and delivering desktop hardware and OS upgrades
  • Demonstrable experience of providing leadership to a team of technical staff in a project environment
  • Ability to develop innovative desktop solutions through the application of specialist knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge and experience (at least ten years) of Microsoft Windows desktop environments gained in the work place and their interoperability with business systems
  • Demonstrable experience of using desktop management tools for system deployments and changes
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written including the ability to interact with people at all levels of seniority within the University
  • Thorough understanding of IT systems life cycle management, from design through to implementation and management
  • Ability to work alone, make decisions and take responsibility without direction
  • Proven excellent investigative and analytical skills, and a drive to find solutions
  • Ability to work and react appropriately in a challenging and fast-paced environment, with demonstrable experience of organising the subsequent busy and varied workload
  • Proven skills in using Microsoft SQL to write reports to manipulate data from a variety of sources
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills
  • Education to degree level or equivalent experience
