Senior PMO Analyst

The Portfolio Management Office team provides high quality support to the IT Services portfolio of projects and programmes.

The team supports all aspects of programme and project delivery, including the provision of up-to-date best practice standards and guidance, monitoring and control, reporting, resource management, risk and issue management and quality assurance.

The role requires the team to build effective working relationships with all members of the IT Services department, as well as external stakeholders, in order to ensure a pragmatic approach to delivery and the appropriate application of the project management methodology.

This role will deputise for the Portfolio Management Office Manager when required, and, in the absence of the Portfolio Management Office Manager, will represent the team at senior meetings and will provide expert guidance to junior staff in the Portfolio Management Office on all aspects of their work.

Essential selection criteria

  • A high level of general education, preferably a degree-level qualification or equivalent
  • Experience of working effectively to demanding deadlines, prioritising own workload with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills and an understanding of communication approaches, including tailoring messages to suit the audience, along with the ability to form constructive relationships with people at all levels within the organisation
  • A strong understanding of IT project and programme life cycles and recent experience of working as part of a programme management office
  • Experience of project management methodologies and a knowledge of both waterfall and agile project approaches
  • Practitioner certificate in PRINCE2 or similar
  • Foundation certificate in one of the following: Management of Risk, Managing Successful Programmes
  • Strong skills and expertise in project planning, analysing and reporting using PPM tools
  • Experience of reporting and of providing metrics and other control information to project management and senior management
  • A confident, enthusiastic, positive and energetic approach, with a willingness to get involved in all aspects of project support
  • Excellent organisational skills, time management, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Significant experience in the use of the Microsoft Office suite
