Organisation structure

Each IT Services group consists of teams that are responsible for the delivery and maintenance of services to support education, research and administration.  A short outline of each group is set out below.

The Interim Director of IT Services is Dr Michael Fraser who is responsible for leading the department and all its activities and services.

The Customer Services Group provides the main central IT support services for the University, including the Service Desk, digital skills training and access to site-licensed or discounted software. Teams include:

  • Service Desk
  • Desktop Services
  • Business Systems Support
  • IT Support Staff Services
  • Digital Capabilities
  • Training Management and Development
  • Educational Media Services
  • UAS IT Support

Customer Services is led by Sam Bateman.

The Programme and Project Delivery Group (PPDG) manages the major programmes and projects that deliver large-scale IT-enabled change for the University.

Areas covered include business systems (such as those used by HR or Finance) and IT infrastructure (such as hardware and software), as well as innovations in using IT for research, teaching and learning. Teams are grouped as:  

  • Portfolio management
  • Programme management
  • Project management
  • Business change management and project communications
  • Business analysis
  • Quality assurance (testing services)

The Programme and Project Delivery Group is led by Jenny Lister.

Infrastructure Services is responsible for the networks, virtualised servers and storage that are the foundation of the University's IT infrastructure. This group is also responsible for identity and access management, Nexus365, and the University's advanced research computing facility.

The largest group in the department with a broad remit, teams include:

  • Network Development and Support

Infrastructure Services is led by Sam Rendell.

The Software Solutions Group provides services to identify, analyse, scope, procure, design, build/configure, test and deploy applications and software, such as the Oxford Mosaic web platform. 

The group also looks after data, reporting architecture and modelling, helping to ensure that data is always available, accessible and reliable. Teams within Software Solutions include:

  • Enterprise Applications
  • Enterprise Integrations
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) CI
  • Canvas Application Development
  • Content Management Systems (CMS) and Web Platforms
  • Data Architecture
  • Information Modelling
  • Data Warehouse and Reporting

Services shared with the Digital Governance Unit

Led by the Chief Digital and Information Officer (OCDIO), David White, IT Services shares an administrative office with the Digital Governance Unit (DGU), called the Office of the Chief Digital and Information Officer (OCDIO). The OCDIO is led by the Director of the DGU and Deputy CDIO, Prof. Stuart Lee, who works closely with the Director of IT Services, Dr Michael Fraser. 

The OCDIO ensures effective delivery of professional HR, finance, communications, administration, executive assistant and estates support to both units.
